Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information MCServerShare ("MCServerShare," "we," "us") collects when you use mcservershare.com (the "Service"), why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as we need and to say plainly what we do.

1. Information We Collect

Information you give us

  • Account information: your email address, a username, and a password (stored only as a hash by our authentication provider, never in plain text).
  • Server listing information: if you list a server, its name, address and port, description, banner image, game modes, version and software, country, website and Discord links, and, if you enable vote rewards, your Votifier host, port and public key. A Votifier public key is meant to be shared and is not sensitive. Listing information is public.
  • Content and activity: comments and replies, comment likes, star reviews, favorites (hearts), the "respect" you give other profiles, and reports you file about a server, comment, review or profile. Comments, reviews and likes by you are tied to your username.
  • Featured-spot bids: the server you bid for, the amount, and how many weeks. Bids and the bidding server's name are shown publicly on the Featured page.
  • Developer API: if you generate an API key, we store only a one-way hash of the key plus the time it was last used.
  • Messages: anything you send us when you email support.

Information created when you vote

A vote is stored with the server it was for and the time. It is linked either to your account (if you are logged in) or to a one-way hash of your IP address (if you are not) — we never store raw IP addresses for votes. This is how we enforce one vote per server per 24 hours.

What we deliberately don't store: if you enter a Minecraft username to vote for a server with vote rewards, that username is kept only in your own browser and is sent straight to that server's Votifier plugin when you vote. It is never written to our database.

Information collected automatically

  • Basic site statistics (no cookies): when you view a page we record the page address, the website you came from (domain only), the time, and an anonymous visitor code. That code is generated, using a secret key, from your IP address, your browser and the current date, so it can count unique visitors within a day but cannot be linked across days or turned back into your IP address. We skip known bots and visitors whose browser sends a Do Not Track signal.
  • Abuse prevention: to limit login attempts, password-reset codes, sign-up codes and bids, we keep short-lived counters keyed to a hash of your email address and a hash of your IP address. These are deleted within about 24 hours.
  • Hosting logs: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser and requested address) for security and operations.

Information about listed servers

To show whether a server is online, we periodically contact it (through a status service) and record whether it responded, how many players are connected, its public message of the day and icon, and hourly player-count history. We record counts only — we do not collect or store the names of players on a server.

Information from advertising and analytics partners (with your consent)

If you choose "Accept all" in the cookie banner, Google Analytics and Google AdSense may set cookies and collect information about your visit, as described in Google's own policies.

2. How We Use Information

  • Run the Service: show listings, rank servers by votes, and display player counts and history
  • Create and secure your account, and send essential emails (sign-up codes, password-reset codes, password-changed notices)
  • Send a one-time welcome email, a "your listing is live" email, and, if you own a listing, a weekly stats summary (you can unsubscribe from the weekly summary with one click or in your profile; essential account emails are always sent)
  • Deliver vote notifications to a server's Votifier plugin when you vote with a username
  • Run the weekly featured-spot auction and show standings
  • Prevent fraud and abuse, including fake votes, spam and scraping, and enforce rate limits
  • Moderate content and act on reports
  • Understand how the site is used, so we can improve it
  • With your consent, show advertising and measure it
  • Respond to support requests and meet legal obligations

3. Cookies & Local Storage

Essential (always on): a session cookie that keeps you logged in.

Stored in your browser (always on): your cookie-consent choice and, if you have voted, your last-entered Minecraft username so you do not have to retype it.

Analytics and advertising (only with consent): Google Analytics and Google AdSense cookies are used only after you choose "Accept all." Choosing "Essential only" keeps them off, and the site works the same either way. Our own basic site statistics (above) use no cookies.

4. Who We Share Information With

We do not sell your personal information. We use these service providers to run the Service:

  • Supabase — database, authentication and file storage
  • Vercel — hosting and image delivery
  • Resend — sending account and summary emails
  • mcstatus.io — we send a listed server's address and port to check its status
  • Google (Analytics and AdSense) — only with your consent
  • Bing and other search engines (via IndexNow) — we notify them of new or changed page addresses; no personal data is included

Some information is public by design: listing details, your public profile (username, avatar, bio, Discord username and links you choose to add, join date, activity counts and badges), usernames on comments, reviews and the community leaderboards, and featured bids. Your favorites and which servers you voted for are never shown. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety or rights of users or the Service, or as part of a business transfer, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.

5. How Long We Keep Information

  • Account, listing, comments, reviews, favorites, bids: until you delete them or delete your account
  • Votes: kept while the server is listed, because they drive rankings; deleted if the server or your account is deleted
  • Basic site statistics: about 90 days
  • Hourly player-count history: 60 days; detailed samples a few days
  • Abuse-prevention counters: about 24 hours
  • Reports and moderation records: as long as needed to keep the Service safe
  • Support emails: as long as needed to help you and for our records

6. Your Choices and Rights

  • Delete your account yourself: go to My server, scroll to the bottom and choose "Delete my account." This permanently removes your login, profile, listing, comments, reviews, favorites, bids, API key and uploaded banner files.
  • You can edit or delete your listing, comments, reviews and profile details at any time.
  • To access or correct other information we hold about you, or to ask for something we cannot do from your account, email support@mcservershare.com.
  • Change your cookie choice by clearing this site's data in your browser; the banner will appear again. You can also manage Google ad personalization in your Google account.

7. Security

We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections, hashed passwords, hashed API keys and restricted database access. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

8. Where Your Information Is Processed

Our servers and providers are located in the United States. If you use the Service from another country, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Privacy Rights for Residents of California and Other Regions

Depending on where you live (for example California, or the EEA and UK), you may have rights to know what personal information we hold, to correct or delete it, and to object to or restrict certain uses. We handle these requests through the steps in section 6. We do not sell personal information. If you accept advertising cookies, Google may use them for personalized ads; you can decline them in the cookie banner. If you are in the EEA or UK, our legal bases are: providing the Service you asked for (account, listings, voting), our legitimate interests in security and improving the site, and your consent for analytics and advertising cookies. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here with an updated date, and for significant changes we will make that clear on the site.
