Set up NuVotifier on your Minecraft server: open the port, add your public key to server lists, test a vote and reward players with a vote plugin.
How it works
When a player votes for your server on a list site, the site sends a small message to your server saying who voted. A plugin called Votifier (most people use NuVotifier) receives it. A second plugin, such as VotingPlugin, then gives that player a reward. Setting it up means getting three things right: the Votifier plugin, an open port, and the key or token you enter on each list site.
Step 1: Install the vote receiver
- Download NuVotifier for your server type (Paper/Spigot for a normal server, or the proxy version if you run Velocity or BungeeCord).
- Put the jar in the plugins folder and restart the server once.
- Open plugins/Votifier/config.yml. Note the port (the default is 8192) and the host.
- Open the rsa folder. The public.key file is what most list sites ask for. Newer sites may ask for a token instead, which is in the config.
Never share the private key (private.key). Only the public key and the token for sites you trust.
Step 2: Open the port
Votifier listens on a TCP port that the list site connects to from the internet. Open it in your firewall and, if the server is at home, forward it on the router. Use the port from your config:
Linux firewall example (ufw)
sudo ufw allow 8192/tcpBehind a proxy such as Velocity? Install the proxy version of NuVotifier on the proxy and have it forward votes to your servers, so one port handles everything.
Step 3: Add it to your listing
On MCServerShare, open your dashboard, edit your listing and turn on Votifier. Enter your host, the Votifier port and your public key, then use the test vote button. A test vote should arrive in your console within seconds. Repeat on every list site you use, because each one needs your host, port and key.
- Use the same public key or token on each site.
- The host must be reachable from the internet, so use your public address, not a local one like 192.168.x.x.
- If the test fails, check the port, the firewall and the exact key you pasted, with no extra spaces or line breaks.
Step 4: Give a reward
Votifier only delivers the message. To reward players, add a vote plugin such as VotingPlugin and configure what each vote gives. Keep rewards simple and fair:
- In-game money or a crate key for each vote.
- A small bonus for voting several days in a row.
- A monthly top-voter prize.
Avoid rewards that make voters much stronger than everyone else. Players notice, and it hurts your reviews.
Offline voters and double rewards
If a player votes while they are offline, a good vote plugin saves the reward and gives it when they log in. Check that yours does. Also set a per-site cooldown, since the same person can vote once per site per day.
Troubleshooting
- No votes arrive: confirm the port is open from outside using a port-check site, and that Votifier is enabled in the console on startup.
- Votes arrive but no reward: the vote plugin is not reading them. Check its config and that the service name matches.
- It worked, then stopped: the key may have been regenerated. If you delete the rsa folder, a new key is made and you must update every list site.
- Players say the reward does not show up: check they used the same username as their in-game name.
Frequently asked questions
What port does Votifier use?
NuVotifier's default port is 8192 (TCP). Open it in your firewall and forward it on your router if the server is at home.
Where do I find my Votifier public key?
In plugins/Votifier/rsa/public.key. Newer sites may ask for a token from the Votifier config instead. Never share private.key.
Why are my votes not arriving?
Usually the port is closed from the internet, the host is a local address, or the key was pasted with extra spaces. Send a test vote from the list site and read the console.
How do I reward players for voting?
Votifier only receives the vote. Add a vote plugin such as VotingPlugin and configure the reward, such as money, a crate key or a streak bonus.
