How to stay safe on public Minecraft servers: account security, scams, chat, downloads and a checklist for parents and guardians.
Protect your account
- Never share your Microsoft or Mojang password with anyone, including staff. No genuine server needs it.
- Turn on two-step verification on your Microsoft account.
- Do not enter your login on any website you reached from a link in chat.
Downloads and links
Only download mods, resource packs or launchers from sources you trust. Fake mod downloads and cracked launchers are a common way for malware to spread. If a server asks you to download something unusual before you can play, leave.
Chat and strangers
- Do not share your real name, address, school or phone number.
- Use the server's report command or ask a moderator if someone makes you uncomfortable.
- Many servers have chat filters, mutes and bans. Pick a server with active moderation.
Spending money
Many servers sell ranks, cosmetics or crate keys to cover costs. Only buy through the server's official store, and never send payment details to a player. Be cautious of anything that promises an unfair advantage, since the server may reset or close without notice. Remember that gift cards are not a normal payment method for a server rank.
Griefing and lost builds
On servers without protection you can lose builds. Look for land claims, check the rules on griefing and keep backups of any world you care about by playing important builds on your own world.
For parents and guardians
- Check the server's rules and who runs it before approving it.
- Ask your child which servers they use, and agree on time limits.
- Microsoft accounts offer family settings that control multiplayer and chat.
- Talk about what to do if someone asks for personal information or makes them uncomfortable.
Reporting problems here
Every listing, comment, review and profile on MCServerShare has a Report button. Reports go to our moderators, who can remove content and ban accounts. If a server asks you to break the rules above, report it.
Frequently asked questions
Are Minecraft servers safe for kids?
Many are, but safety depends on the server. Look for clear rules, active moderation and chat filters, and use Microsoft family settings to control multiplayer and chat.
Can a Minecraft server steal my account?
A server cannot take your account just by joining. Danger comes from links, fake downloads and requests for your password, which you should never share.
Should I accept a server resource pack?
Resource packs from servers you trust are normally safe and only change textures while you play there. You can decline most of them and still play.
What should I do if someone is harassing me?
Use the server's report command, tell a moderator or a parent, and block the player. You can also report content on MCServerShare with the Report button.
