Lines wrap using Minecraft's real character widths. The letter shapes are approximate. Red rows won't fit on the page. Hover a shaded link to see what it does; page links jump when clicked.

Get your book

Command to run in game

This command is 1,919 characters. Chat only accepts 256, so paste it into a command block (up to 32,500) or run it from the server console.

Gives the book to the nearest player (@p). Change it to a player name if you like.

How the book customizer works

  1. Pick a template (or start blank, or import a VirtualBooks file you already have).
  2. Type each line in the easy editor. Choose a colour, make it bold, centre it, or add a clickable link, with no codes to remember. Pasting a long text wraps it into pages for you.
  3. Copy it. Take the /give command for your Minecraft version, or the VirtualBooks file with clickable links.

The live preview uses Minecraft's real character widths, so what you see is what fits: 14 lines per page, 114 pixels per line, with bold characters one pixel wider. Power users can switch to Code view to edit the raw & colour codes.

  • VirtualBooks: export a ready-to-use .yml with clickable links, hover text and page jumps.
  • Vanilla /give: long books need a command block, because chat limits commands to 256 characters.

Frequently asked questions

How many lines and characters fit on a Minecraft book page?
A page holds 14 lines, and each line is 114 pixels wide. That's about 19 average letters, fewer if the text is bold, because bold characters are one pixel wider. The customizer measures every line with Minecraft's real character widths.
How do I give myself the book?
Copy the /give command for your Minecraft version and run it in game, in a command block or from the console. Long books go over the 256-character chat limit, so use a command block (up to 32,500 characters) or the console.
Can I make clickable text?
In the VirtualBooks plugin, yes: add a link, put {key} on its own line in a page, and export the YAML. Links can run or suggest a command, jump to a page or open a URL. Vanilla /give books show the text but aren't clickable in this tool.
Can I edit a VirtualBooks file I already have?
Yes. Open Import a VirtualBooks .yml, choose your file or paste it, edit it with the live preview, then export it again.
Do I need to learn colour codes?
No. The easy editor has a colour picker and bold, italic, underline and centre buttons for each line. If you prefer codes, Code view uses &0–&9 and &a–&f for the 16 colours, &l bold, &o italic, &n underline, &m strikethrough, &k scrambled and &r reset. Book text is black by default.
