About modded servers

Modded servers run extra content on top of Minecraft: new machines, dimensions, magic systems, creatures and whole progression trees. Some run a well-known modpack that you download once and join, others are custom collections with their own balance changes.

Playing modded takes a little more setup than vanilla, because you need the right mod loader and pack version, but it also gives the deepest long-term play: automation, engineering, bosses and quest lines. Check the listing for the pack name and version, then install the same one.

What to look for in a modded server

A clearly named modpack and version, with a download link or launcher instructions.
Active updates: modpacks get outdated quickly.
Player count high enough that the world feels alive.
Staff that help with crashes and installation questions.
